Bell Ringing at St Stephen's

Church bell-ringing has been an English tradition for centuries and is a wonderful way to celebrate special events, such as weddings and christenings, and to commemorate important moments in our national life. Bell ringing St Stephen's has a small but enthusiastic group of bell ringers who ring the bells every week prior to the Sunday service and also for weddings and other special occasions.

Bell ringing is a skill that takes time and practice to perfect, but it is also a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people. Our bells are very light and great strength is not needed. What you do need is to learn the technique.  Age is no bar and some bellringers go on to ring into their 90s!

So, if you're looking for a new hobby, or if you're just looking for a way to give back to the community, we would love to have you come and volunteer to learn bell ringing at St Stephen's so that bell ringing continues in the future.  We will provide you with all the training you need and you do not need to be a regular churchgoer.   If you are interested in learning how to ring bells, we would love to have you come and join us.

We practice on Monday evenings and tuition can be arranged for anyone who wishes to learn how to ring. We are always extremely keen to welcome new recruits and no previous experience is necessary. If you are interested in joining us should get in touch with Ian Smith (Tower Captain) on 01225 314763 or Robin Peachey (Tower Secretary) on 01225 780336
