My name is Kate Bravin and I’m one of a group of five volunteer parents who help to co-ordinate the Toddler Group held at St. Stephen’s Church Centre. I am a trained teacher but currently full-time mum to two beautiful daughters, aged 5 and 2, and I also help run our beef farm on Lansdown alongside my husband.

Toddler Group Info

At St. Stephen’s Toddler Group we welcome parents, grandparents and carers of pre-school children from age 0 to 5 years old. We provide a fun, informal and safe place for the children to play and socialise. We meet every Monday during term time from 9.30am to 11.30am in the Church Centre and ask for a £1.50 donation per family. It’s the perfect place to head after school drop off with pre-schoolers and a brilliant way to meet other parents and carers, especially if you’re new to the area.

The children can play with a wide range of toys including those for babies, set out in a dedicated for area. There is always tea, coffee and biscuits for the adults as well as drinks for the children, At mid-morning we offer a varied and healthy snack for the little ones, all courtesy of our wonderful refreshment women form the Church, Sue and Anita. We end our sessions with singing, stories or parachute games and are also very fortunate that Revd Philip joins us to host a sing-a-long session each month, which all the children enjoy hugely.

On occasions, members of the local community attend the group to display and showcase cards, gifts, books and even run fun sessions for the children such as yoga! A professional children’s photographer, visits the group twice a year and takes stunning photos of the children which you are then able to purchase if you would like.

We like to make use of the outdoor spaces around the church, with older children enjoying outdoor treasure hunts and scavenging for natural objects and materials to use in our craft activities.

Each year we hold an annual Christmas party in December which includes a visit from Father Christmas, festive sing-song with Rev. Philip and of course party food at snack time. We also host our summer party in July at the beautiful Millennium Green with activities such as treasure hunts, outdoor crafts, bubble blowing and it wouldn’t be complete without another visit from the wonderful Rev. Philip. Both of these playgroup events are always very popular indeed!

Fundraising is an integral part of our toddler group. We make regular donations to the church and are keen to help support the Scruffy Church initiative. We also frequently hold collections to help local community appeals such as the RUH Forever Friends Appeal.

We are always delighted to welcome new members so feel free to come along to one of our Monday morning sessions and join in. Alternatively, if you would like more information about playgroup please contact us via the church office:
